v1.0.18

LatestRelease on GitHub

Added

  • Report a message or a person. From a message's More menu or a person's card. The report goes sealed to the room's owner and admins only, who see it in the room's Reports, with Show in the room, Delete for everyone, Mute, Remove from room and Dismiss. Never in a secure room.
  • Whether a model fits this computer. Settings → Notes & AI says whether each model fits, from QVAC's own check of this computer's memory and graphics, and when one may not fit beside the model it runs with. A downloaded model is read from its file, with nothing fetched; one you haven't downloaded is checked only when you click "Check if it fits". The call's AI decides by the same check, and a Mac's Parakeet counts its Core ML encoder.
  • Waking the people of a room on their iPhone. A message or a call started from this computer can wake the room's members on their iPhone, through the team's blind peer, with nothing readable in it, once the team's push gateway is running.

Changed

  • macOS 13 or later. Capy now runs on a supported Electron, which needs macOS 13 or later, so macOS 12 is no longer supported. Capy 1.0.17 on macOS 12 still takes this update, which then doesn't open there; from 1.0.18 on, an update your Mac can't run is held, and Capy says which macOS it needs.
  • The privacy screen hides more. It now also hides a person's card, your profile in Settings, the menu bar's popover, the @mention list and the #tag beside names.
  • Your camera sends at most 24 frames a second, so nobody's picture freezes for frames the others had to drop.
  • A shared screen's tile takes the shape of the picture, also when a phone sharing its screen turns.

Fixed

  • People in a call who couldn't reach each other. They now connect by themselves: Capy looks for them again while someone in the call isn't connected to you, instead of waiting until someone leaves.
  • Screen sharing behind other windows. Sharing your screen in a call keeps going while Capy's window is behind other windows (reported on Windows 11).
  • A room opens at its newest message. Also after Capy opens again.
  • Tall photos fit the viewer. A tall photo, such as a phone screenshot, fits the viewer whole, and you can zoom out of it.
  • The microphone and camera you picked. They are the ones that open; before, Capy could open the system's default instead.
  • Copy words works again. In Settings → Recovery words.
  • Your last words in a call stay in its transcript, also when you join another call right after.

v1.0.17

Release on GitHub

Added

  • A simpler first run. Pick your name and you're in. Once you have a room, a card in the sidebar asks you to save your 24 words, and you can do it then or later; locking Capy and adding a device come up the same way, one at a time, each easy to put off.
  • The privacy screen hides faces and names. The eye in the sidebar now hides people's and rooms' photos and people's names too, everywhere they show; rest the pointer on one to see it.
  • A cover while you log out. Logging out, or logging out and erasing, covers the window until it's done and says so if it fails, instead of leaving the app open while it works.

Changed

  • Recovery words say where you stand. Settings → Recovery words says whether your words were shown and checked, and checking three of them is optional.
  • One relay. Capy uses only the team's new relay, which stays up.

Fixed

  • The room's header stays in the window. It no longer slides up under the title bar.

Removed

  • The voice filter. Capy no longer filters your voice: voice messages go as you recorded them, and calls send your microphone as the system gives it (echo cancellation and noise suppression stay on).

v1.0.16

Release on GitHub

Changed

  • People find each other more reliably. A busy computer keeps reaching the people a room finds, and the team's relay runs on its own, so it no longer goes down when someone quits Capy.
  • The call says who isn't connected to you. Its header counts the people in the call your computer hasn't reached yet, and when it reaches nobody for a few minutes a card in the sidebar says what the network measured, with a way to Settings → Network.
  • One restart to the newest version. An older Capy now goes straight to the newest version in one restart, instead of a version in between.
  • Hold to record, let go to review. Holding the camera button (or the photo shutter) records, and letting go stops into the review: Discard, Record again or Send. Nothing goes by itself.

Fixed

  • Windows' firewall. Capy's network is allowed when it installs, so no firewall prompt can leave it blocked.
  • Breakout rooms and Captions. Breakout rooms no longer push the call up, and Captions has its icon in the call's More menu.
  • The composer's text. It is no longer cut in half when a room opens behind another screen.
  • The AI worker stops with Capy. However Capy was closed.

v1.0.15

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Big calls stay smooth. The stage pages its tiles, and video comes only from the people on your page.
  • Copy all in Settings → Network. One click puts the whole tab on the clipboard, for a bug report.

Changed

  • Video messages and files up to 10 MB. A video message shows the time it has left and stops by itself at the limit, for you to check before it goes. A bigger file goes straight between computers, with no limit but the disk, and a room's Files have no cap either.
  • Secure rooms hold 2 to 16 people.
  • Linking a device says each step. On both computers, and what to try when one waits too long.
  • The other relay when one is down. Capy goes to the team's other relay by itself.

Fixed

  • Cameras. Switching cameras, turning one off while it switches, unplugging one, and a video message whose camera went away.
  • The update card no longer shows the word "null".

Security

  • Your 24 words sealed by the keychain. Where your computer has one, the words are kept sealed by it, and the first run only shows them. Copy and Save as a text file live in Settings → Recovery words, and a copy leaves the clipboard a minute later.
  • Lock Capy asks before it changes. Turning the lock off, or switching between Touch ID and the PIN, asks for the current one first.

v1.0.14

Release on GitHub

Added

  • A second relay and blind peer. When one of the team's machines is down, people still reach each other through the other, and messages for someone who is offline still wait for them there.

1.0.13 was never released: 1.0.12 was followed by 1.0.14.

v1.0.12

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Add a device without the words. From the device that keeps your 24 words, Settings → Devices → Add a device shows a link and a QR code that work once, for 10 minutes. On the new device, "I already use Capy" → "Link to my account", then Accept on the first one. The words stay on one device.
  • Devices have names. Each shows as its type and a short code from its key ("Mac · i1hp55"), never your computer's name, and you can rename it from any of your devices.
  • Invisible. A status that shows you as not connected, for an hour, until tomorrow or until you change it.
  • A connection test before a call. It sends a real burst to the people online and says what it measured.
  • Shares in full screen, zoomed or side by side. What someone shares can go full screen, zoom and pan, or sit beside the pinned tile, with a chip in the header for each share.
  • Shortcuts for Decision and Task. Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+D and Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+T mark the moment in a call.
  • Download automatically. A switch in Privacy & security; off, nothing of a message's files comes before you press Download.
  • Open-source licenses. Settings → About lists what Capy includes and the license of each.

Changed

  • Recovery takes the words, typed or from the saved file.
  • Touch ID first. The lock asks for Touch ID where the computer has it, and the PIN only when you pick it.
  • Muting someone deletes their messages. For everyone in that room; devices still on 1.0.11 keep showing them.
  • Seen shows once everyone has read a message.
  • Voice messages are checked before they go. Tap or hold to record, up to five minutes, then play it back, discard or send.
  • Deleting gives the disk space back.
  • Room Files learn versions. A same-name file can be a new version, identical files aren't stored twice, and files and folders move by dragging.
  • Links ask before they open. A click on a link shows its address and asks first; "Don't ask again" lives in Privacy & security.
  • Every field has a limit, and says so before you reach it.
  • The minutes make no tasks by themselves. What the AI finds waits for your click in the Tasks and Decisions panels.
  • The language switches in place. No reload: a call, a draft, a dialog go on.
  • Linux. The AppImage stays and no longer needs libfuse2; the Snap Store's beta channel has Capy (sudo snap install capy --beta).
  • macOS. The Macs are notarized by Apple: a double-click opens them.
  • Capy is proprietary from this version, © 2026 Ciranda. The source of its LGPL parts comes with each release.

Removed

  • Safety codes, Verify and Block. No screen shows a safety code or blocks anyone any more; someone blocked before stays blocked.
  • Link codes for devices. Replaced by the link and the QR code above.

Security

  • A removed device is refused everywhere. Remove a device from any of yours: every device refuses it from then on, and an up-to-date removed device erases what it kept.
  • A forgotten PIN needs proof. It is reset only with another device's approval or the 24 words; while locked, nothing outside the lock screen works.
  • Someone taken out of a call stays out of it on every device.

v1.0.11

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Code in messages. Inline code between backticks and blocks between three, each block with a Copy button. In the composer, ⌘E and ⌘⇧E (Ctrl+E, Ctrl+Shift+E) make a selection code.
  • Invite links. The invite menu has Copy invite link, and a click on a capy:// link opens Capy with the invite in the Join dialog. Show QR code is in the same menu.
  • A person's card. From the member list: their role and what you may change there (their role, Mute, Remove from room).
  • Lock Capy. With Touch ID or a PIN, in Settings → Privacy & security.
  • Your settings follow you. Pinned rooms, muted rooms and what you have read follow you to your other devices, and a device you add opens your older messages from them.

Changed

  • Your status is only the one you pick. Capy never sets you Away by itself.
  • Your other devices don't ring when you call: they show a quiet notice with a Join button.
  • Pick your language from a menu on the first screen, with each language's flag.

Security

  • Link previews start off for everyone. Making one shows the website your IP address; turn them on in Settings → Privacy & security if you want them.

v1.0.10

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Calls take up to 16 people. When one is full, Join says so, and you can join as soon as someone leaves.
  • Minimize a shared screen or PDF. Nobody has to watch it: fold it into a chip in the call's header and show it again when you like.
  • Links open in your browser when you click them.
  • Every transfer says how it's going. How much came, how fast, about how long is left, or what it's waiting for.
  • Zoom in the photo viewer. Buttons for it, and a room's picture opens large on a click.
  • Updates install themselves (macOS and Linux). An update you leave waiting installs at a quiet moment, after a one-minute countdown, never during a call.

Changed

  • Calls adapt to your connection. Video starts lower and climbs while the link is good, backs off when it isn't, and the sound waits a little for voices that arrive late. The connection signal fits long distances.
  • Capy keeps its connections. It keeps reconnecting to the devices of the people in your rooms, so after a restart or between two calls it doesn't have to find them again.
  • After a call, the notes write themselves. Your minutes, then the decisions, tasks and open questions for you to add, then the transcript's chapters; a long call is read in parts.
  • A secure room's call isn't started alone, since its end would erase the room.
  • Big files from 25 MB. A file you send over 25 MB goes only straight between two computers; video and voice messages are held to 25 MB.
  • Remove from Files deletes nobody's copy. The file leaves the room's Files and stops being shared from your computer; people who downloaded it keep theirs.
  • The language cards show each language's name in English too.

Fixed

  • Capy picks itself up. Its background part starts again by itself, the window loads again if it crashes, a message it can't show no longer breaks the room, and what you were typing comes back (outside secure rooms).
  • Error reports say which version each error happened in.

Security

  • Rooms hold up against a member who floods or breaks them. What one modified app sends is refused on your device instead of closing the room.

v1.0.9

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Files, per room. A Files tab, a tree of folders and files the people in a room keep together: upload a file or a folder, make folders, rename, move, put a new version over the old one. Nothing downloads until you ask, and a file arrives only while you and someone who has it are both online.
  • Big files in the chat. A file can be up to 10 GB; above 100 MB it goes only straight between two computers and comes only when you press Download, with pause, resume and cancel.
  • Link previews. A link you type gets a card with its page's title and picture; your computer fetches the page once, the people in the room fetch nothing. Can be turned off in Privacy & security.
  • A room's picture, set by its owner and admins.
  • Log out and erase. Log out sits at the bottom of Settings and keeps your rooms here; "Log out and erase", at the bottom of Privacy & security, clears this computer, and your rooms stay with the other people in them and on your other devices.

Changed

  • The status picker says what each status does, and your status shows on your avatar in Settings.
  • A waiting join can be cancelled, and pasting the invite of a room you're already in opens it.
  • Calls show only real measures. Every audio and video packet is numbered, so lost and late packets are counted for real. The lobby lets go of the camera when you leave it.
  • Holding the record button keeps recording until you let go.
  • Updates show up within minutes instead of up to an hour, and once you press Restart now the card's buttons can't be pressed again.
  • A voice message's transcript opens and closes, and Settings → Network shows your address and keys without opening Details first.

Fixed

  • Ghost devices. Settings → Devices no longer lists a computer that never really came in, and removes such entries by itself.
  • A file sent while you were away opens from the blind peer alone.
  • Someone removed from a room who pastes its invite again is refused.
  • The privacy screen keeps every box the same size.

Security

  • Secure rooms sealed and out of backups. Their file is sealed with your system's keychain, on a Mac they're kept out of Time Machine, and they're erased when their call ends, with no other time to pick.

1.0.8 went out over the air on the same day and was replaced within hours by 1.0.9, which carries all of its changes and the two fixes found right after it (a file sent while you were away, a removed person's invite).

v1.0.7

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Four languages. English, Português, Español and العربية, right to left.
  • Threads. Reply to any message in a thread, with its own replies, mentions and files.
  • Polls in calls. Quick polls, planning poker and fist of five.
  • Breakout rooms. Anyone in the call can start them, and nobody hosts them.
  • Present a PDF page by page, from the call's Share menu.
  • A connection card for each person, and a connection test before you join.
  • The agenda counts down each item, and the call can vote to move on. A repeating meeting opens with what happened last time, and every call leaves a recap in the room.
  • The canvas: retros and templates. A retro where everyone's notes stay hidden until all are ready, and boards from templates (Kanban, Scrum, mind map, SWOT and more) whose cards are the room's tasks.
  • The AI follows the call, on your own computer, with a model downloaded: catch me up when you join late, a live summary, chapters in the transcript, decisions and tasks found for you to confirm, unanswered questions, Prepare me before a meeting, a daily check-in drafted from what you said, and Ask the past without leaving the call.
  • More transcription models. Whisper large-v3 Turbo and Parakeet TDT 0.6B v3.
  • The tray on Windows and Linux. Closing the window keeps Capy in the tray.

Changed

  • Updates heal themselves. A failed update tries again on its own, a new version that doesn't start puts the previous one back, and on a Mac Capy offers to move itself into Applications so it can update. Nobody has to install it again.
  • One width for the side panels, and the room's header never runs out of the window.

Fixed

  • Ghost copies of the same computer no longer show in Settings → Devices, and can be removed in one click.

v1.0.6

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Insights per meeting. Talk share, interruptions and length are worked out per meeting, not for the whole room, the same on everyone's screen. A Meetings panel lists each one and follows a repeating meeting over time.
  • Daily check-in. Before a standup, everyone writes Yesterday, Today and Blockers; in the call the answers show one person at a time, and a blocker becomes a task with one click. When everyone is in, the call can be skipped.
  • A round with a timer. Everyone in the call speaks in turn, in a random order that is the same for everyone, with a timer that turns amber then red; nobody hosts it.
  • Shared notes, live. Everyone in the call writes the same document from a template (daily, 1:1, planning, interview, retro). A checkbox becomes a task and an @name its owner.
  • Decision and Task buttons in the call mark the moment. A Decisions log lists every meeting's decisions, searchable, each opening the call at that moment.

Changed

  • Changing the language no longer restarts the app. It waits for your call to end.
  • Zoom on every avatar, letters included, and the photo opens as large as the window allows.

Fixed

  • The privacy screen no longer flickers when messages arrive.

v1.0.5

Release on GitHub

Added

  • The privacy screen. One button blurs what's said on your screen (messages, photos, videos, names) for people passing behind you; rest the pointer on a message to peek. Notifications say only "New message".
  • Sent, Delivered and Seen. Delivered says only that the other person's Capy has the message, never when.
  • Your status. Active, Away or Busy, automatic or picked.
  • A live voice filter in calls, a mic level with "Hear my mic", and warnings when your mic is muted or silent.
  • A connection signal on every tile in a call: green, amber or red.
  • Copy from anywhere. Right-click to copy, and one-click copy buttons. Nothing can be copied from a secure room.
  • More emoji and stickers. Many more emoji (with a Spicy shelf and Portuguese search), fifty capybara emoji of our own, and more stickers.
  • Profile photos open large. Click anyone's photo in the chat, the member list or their card.
  • A new update card in the sidebar, which never restarts you in the middle of a call.

Changed

  • Your speaking shows pace and filler words per minute, and the Clear and Broadcast filters sound less robotic.
  • Photos and video messages go the way you saw them in the mirror, with a switch to turn that off.
  • Selects look the same on every system, and boxes no longer move when you reveal a key or press a button.
  • AI models. None is picked until you download one, a stalled download can be cancelled and says why, and the status row is tidier.

Fixed

  • Capy opens on Windows.

v1.0.4

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Leave a room from its menu; the others see you left.
  • Rename, remove and mute. The owner or an admin can rename a room, remove someone for good, or mute them so they can't post. Someone removed stops getting new messages and seeing who's online.
  • Who reacted. Rest the mouse on a reaction, or open the message's More menu.
  • Video messages you check first. Record, watch it back, then send. Or hold the camera button to record and let go to send.
  • The camera button takes a photo or a video, and switches cameras.
  • A voice filter for voice messages (Settings → Audio & video), and "Your speaking" in a call's notes: repeated words, fillers, long pauses. Only you see it.
  • Four AI models for the minutes, picked in Settings → Notes & AI, and a call's transcript can be copied or saved.
  • Save your 24 words as a text file, and pick your language on the first screen.
  • Settings → Network shows how your device connects.
  • Feedback and bug reports from Settings → Help & feedback, straight to the Capy team. A report says how your device connects (counts and error codes, never addresses).
  • First test builds for Windows and Linux (unstable).

Changed

  • Rooms in order. Pinned rooms first, then the latest activity, with times like "Yesterday".
  • A waiting join moves to the background.

Fixed

  • The window opens again after closing it, the "Add to calendar" menu inside a meeting's details, the message toolbar over the room's header, your look's colour around a profile photo, and the installer's disk icon.

1.0.3 was never released: its changes went out as 1.0.4 the same day.

v1.0.2

Release on GitHub

Added

  • Pin rooms to the top of your list.
  • An update shows how far along its download is.
  • First test builds for Linux and Windows.

Changed

  • Secure rooms stay through a restart, until their call ends or their time runs out.
  • Secure rooms connect through the relay when two devices can't reach each other.

v1.0.1

Over the air only, to installed copies of 1.0.0; no installer.

Fixed

  • Secure rooms meet through the relay when a direct connection fails.

v1.0.0

Release on GitHub

Added

  • The first public beta of Capy, private peer-to-peer meeting rooms, for macOS on Apple Silicon and Intel.
  • On-device AI on any Mac. Transcripts, minutes and captions, with no extra libraries to install.
  • Messages reach people who were offline. A blind peer keeps each room encrypted.
  • A blind relay connects devices that can't reach each other directly.
  • Updates over the peer-to-peer network, once installed.

Phone

Capy for Android (an APK) and iPhone (TestFlight, by invitation). Early test builds.

v0.0.4

LatestRelease on GitHub

This version needs the new app, from TestFlight or the APK: 0.0.3 doesn't take it over the air. On Android, install the APK over the version you have; don't uninstall first.

Added

  • Report a message or a person to the room's owner and admins, sealed so only they can open it. If you run a room, you see its reports. Never in a secure room.
  • Share your phone's screen in a call, from More: the others see it as they see a computer's, and it turns with your phone. Never in a secure room.
  • Stay connected in the background, on Android. Messages and calls reach you as notifications while Capy runs behind other apps, with no Google service at all. It uses more battery, and it's on by default, in Settings → Notifications.
  • Notifications with Capy closed, on iPhone. Capy can notify you of messages and calls with the app closed, with nothing readable going through Apple or Google: the phone writes the words itself. It's on by default in Settings → Notifications, and takes effect once the team's push gateway is running.
  • Block someone from their card; Settings → Privacy & security → Blocked people lists them.
  • The app icon shows how many messages wait for you. Secure rooms are never counted.
  • Swipe a message to the right to reply, anywhere on it.
  • Your own other devices in a call show as tiles, with what they share or present.

Changed

  • A shorter first run. Say hello, pick your name and you're in. Once you have a room, a card asks you to save your 24 words, then or later; locking Capy and adding a device come up the same way.
  • A held video message stops into a review: play it, then Send, Record again or Discard, as voice messages do.
  • Only the ticks beside a message's time: one sent, two delivered, two in colour seen.
  • Smoother video. The people in a call are drawn at the frame rate they send (before, a computer's 24 a second showed as 12), your own preview runs at the camera's best rate, and your tile no longer goes blank when the call's panel opens.
  • "Sending…" until it's kept. A voice or video message, or a file, says so until it is kept for the room, so the others can get it while you're offline.
  • Files and video messages up to 10 MB, as on computers, and Capy uses the team's new relay.
  • Logging out covers the app until it's done.

Fixed

  • Two people in a call who couldn't reach each other at first now connect by themselves.
  • The message field goes back to its size after you send a long message.
  • The notes model no longer closes the app on a phone without the memory for it: one model runs at a time, and the notes say why when one couldn't.
  • The "Your words didn't open on this phone" screen no longer sends you back to itself.

Removed

  • The voice filter. Voice messages go as you recorded them.

v0.0.3

Release on GitHub

Added

  • On-device AI on your phone. Pick a transcription model (Whisper Tiny, Base or Small) and one to write your notes (Llama 3.2 1B, Qwen3 1.7B or 4B), each saying whether your phone can run it. After a call the minutes, decisions, tasks and chapters write themselves, or tap "Write the notes now". Ask your rooms, and translate captions.
  • Calls ring on your phone while Capy is open, and your own call on another device doesn't ring.
  • Hold the camera button to record a video message, let go to send, slide away to cancel.
  • Updates over the air. From this version, changes that don't touch the app's native parts arrive by themselves.

Changed

  • Your voice in your language. It is transcribed in the language you speak, and short noises no longer turn into words.
  • Mic, camera and Leave always stay on screen in a call.
  • Rooms come back right away when you return to Capy, with a strip saying what Capy is waiting for; messages arrive together instead of one by one.
  • A message's time and status sit together at its end; the "+" is inside the message field; photos, room pictures and profile photos open full screen with zoom.

Fixed

  • The chat stays smooth when messages arrive.
  • Sending finishes even if you leave Capy right after.
  • Android. Reply raises the keyboard, and a long-pressed message no longer disappears.

Security

  • Your 24 words sealed by the phone's keychain, kept only on this phone and out of backups; an older install moves them there by itself.

v0.0.2

Release on GitHub

Fixed

  • The first run's cards keep clear of the phone's edges. Nothing is clipped, and every button of both first-run flows got the same spacing and size.
  • Opening a call no longer freezes the app for seconds.
  • Add a device shows Copy and Share side by side.
  • Android. The keyboard no longer covers the message field (build 3).

v0.0.1

Release on GitHub

Added

  • The first test build for phones. Rooms, chat, calls, meetings, devices and the lock, as Capy 1.0.12 for computers has them, on Android 10 or later (an APK) and on iPhone through TestFlight.
